HighMemo Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 July 2026

HighMemo is a local-first note-taking app. There is no HighMemo account or HighMemo backend that receives your notes by default. This policy explains the information that stays on your device, the optional features that send information to other services, and advertising in the free app.

1. Information stored on your device

HighMemo stores the notes, titles, tags, folders, note relationships, attachments, reminder settings, downloaded on-device AI models, and app settings that you create in the app's private storage on your device. Device operating-system protections apply to that storage; HighMemo does not provide a separate app-level encryption password for it.

HighMemo does not send this information to a HighMemo server. Information can leave your device only when you use an optional feature described below or when you interact with an external link or advertisement.

2. Google Drive and Google Calendar

If you choose to connect Google, HighMemo requests access to the application data folder in your Google Drive and read-only access to your Google Calendar. Drive sync stores a copy of sync data in the application data folder of the Google account you connect. Calendar access lets HighMemo read event information, including event titles, times, and locations, for calendar views, memo matching, and reminders. HighMemo does not create, edit, or delete Google Calendar events.

Google data is used only to provide these user-visible functions. HighMemo does not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or allow people to read it for unrelated purposes. HighMemo's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Disconnecting Google stops future use of that connection in HighMemo, but it does not itself guarantee deletion of content already stored in Google Drive or revoke the OAuth grant. You can manage or revoke HighMemo's Google access in your Google Account permissions. Google's handling of your account data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

3. AI features

On-device AI. Models you choose to download run on your device. Choosing, downloading, or using a third-party model is your decision and is subject to that model's licence and its provider's terms. Unless HighMemo expressly states otherwise, HighMemo is not affiliated with or endorsed by those model providers. On-device model processing does not send your requested note text to a HighMemo server.

Cloud AI providers. If you configure a cloud AI provider with your own API key, HighMemo sends the content needed for the AI feature you request directly from your device to that provider. This can include note content, chat questions, and relevant calendar context such as event titles or locations. Perplexity requests can also use that provider's search capability. Your use of these services is governed by the provider you select; do not send information you are not willing to share with that provider.

Available providers may include Google Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, Mistral, Perplexity, and Alibaba Cloud. The available providers can change with app updates. Apple Intelligence may be available as an on-device provider on supported Apple devices.

4. Location and maps

Location reminder arrival checks run on your device. When you search for a place, reverse-geocode a location, or load a map while setting a location reminder, your location coordinates or search query may be sent to the relevant map, geocoding, or map-tile provider, such as OpenStreetMap's Nominatim and OpenFreeMap. Those providers can receive your IP address and standard request information.

5. Links, link previews, and downloaded models

When you save or preview a web link, HighMemo can request the linked page and follow redirects to create a preview. The destination and redirect services can receive your IP address, the requested URL, and standard HTTP request data; requests may include cookies available to the request. Preview images can be downloaded, and optical character recognition for supported images runs locally.

When you choose to download an AI model or related machine-learning data, your device connects to the host that provides it. That host can receive your IP address and standard download request information.

6. Advertising

HighMemo shows ads in the memo list, provided by Google AdMob. There is no paid tier and no ad-free option. Google may collect and use device identifiers, approximate location derived from IP, device information, and ad interaction data as described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and Google's Privacy Policy.

Ad requests do not include note content, titles, tags, attachments, or calendar events. On iOS, HighMemo asks for App Tracking Transparency permission before using the advertising identifier. On Android, you can reset or delete the advertising ID in device settings. In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, HighMemo presents Google's consent form before the ads SDK is initialized.

7. Technical requests and information we do not collect

HighMemo does not include an analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting SDK. The Mac app can check GitHub for available updates; GitHub receives technical request information such as your IP address and app version. External services described in this policy process information under their own policies.

HighMemo does not sell your notes or use them to train an AI model. Widget content can be visible on your device's lock screen or desktop according to your operating-system settings.

8. Your choices and deletion

You can use HighMemo without connecting Google or configuring a cloud AI provider. You can revoke location, tracking, and other device permissions in your operating-system settings. You can remove content from the app or uninstall the app to remove data stored in its local app storage. Uninstalling does not delete copies previously synced to Google Drive, information already sent to a third-party provider, or information retained by advertising, map, link, or model-hosting providers under their policies.

9. Children

HighMemo is not directed to children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction. If you believe a child has provided personal information through an optional third-party service, contact that service and us at the address above.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app or applicable requirements change. The current version is posted at this URL with its updated date. The HighMemo Terms of Service apply to use of the app.
